Jigging is one of these easiest fishing techniques to follow.  Many avid fishermen also teach their children to use this technique when learning to fish.  Despite being very easy to carry out jigging is also extremely effective.

The basic mechanics behind jigging are lowering a line with a weighted lure into the water to a desired depth and then bouncing it up and down to attract fish.  This works for a couple reasons.  The lure or “jig” is usually shiny and the reflection attracts game fish.  The up and down movement simulates the movements of an injured bait fish and draws predators in further.

Because jigging takes only the most basic fishing equipment and is extremely effective it is one of the most popular ways to fish.  You can observe people fishing off piers, bridges, docks and boats using this technique and catching fish.
